3 Knox County middle schools gifted musical instruments valuing more than $180,000

The instruments will be given to Bearden Middle School, Gresham Middle School and Vine Middle School.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — Middle school students across Knox County will have more access to musical instruments after $180,000 worth of them were donated to three schools across the school district, according to a release from Knox County Schools.

They will be given to Bearden Middle School, Gresham Middle School and Vine Middle School. The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, a nonprofit that supports music education across the U.S., chose those three schools to get the instruments. They will be revealed to students on April 19, April 23 and April 26, according to a release from KCS.

Bearden Middle School received seven violins, six violas, five cellos and two double-brass instruments. The donation to that school totals $26,208 in value, according to the KCS release. Gresham Middle School and Vine Middle School each received a bounty of music instruments, listed below.

Gresham Middle School - $100,358 in value

  • 2 bass clarinets
  • 4 alto saxophones
  • 2 tenor saxophones
  • 4 French horns
  • 8 trumpets

Vine Middle Magnet School - $55,044 in value

  • 6 flutes
  • 1 bassoon
  • 5 clarinets
  • 3 trumpets
  • 5 trombones
  • 4 euphoniums
  • 1 tuba
  • 1 concert bass drum
  • 8 bell kits
  • 1 xylophone
  • 1 temple block set

Vine Middle School's instruments were unveiled on Friday. Gresham Middle School's will be unveiled on April 23, and Bearden Middle School's instruments will be revealed on April 26.
