Anchor Mary Scott leaving WBIR

Noon anchor Mary Scott is departing Channel 10 to work on Randy Boyd's campaign for governor of Tennessee.

WBIR is saying goodbye to a member of our family.

Noon anchor Mary Scott is departing Channel 10 to work on Randy Boyd's campaign for governor of Tennessee. She will be working in communications.

Mary came to WBIR in 2011 as a reporter after two years in Panama City Beach. It wasn't long before she moved to the anchor desk, first anchoring weekend mornings, and then 10News at Noon during the week.

She's told hundreds of stories over the years, but her favorites have always been about the people and spirit of East Tennessee.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to tell East Tennessee’s stories these last six years," Mary said. "I am proud of the work WBIR produces, the advocacy the staff champions and the difference our stories make in the community.”

Mary said some of the most memorable stories she's worked on at WBIR include reporting on the Gatlinburg wildfires, the Knox County school bus crash investigations and the impact of the opioid epidemic on the youngest victims.

She's also enjoyed helping recruit volunteers and making sure the good in our community shines through the bad by telling stories for the Volunteer Heart and Pay It Forward series.

“WBIR and East Tennessee viewers have made me a better person. They taught me what it means to make a difference in the community and serve others. I will always carry that with me in my life and career,” she said.

We will miss her and wish her luck as she moves on to new opportunities!
