BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Blount County community has a new way to directly connect with the Blount County Sheriff's Office — a mobile app.

The sheriff's office announced in November people could download the app. It is meant to help connect people in Blount County with law enforcement in the area. Through the app, people can find messages from the sheriff's office and learn more about the sheriff's office departments. They can also submit tips about different crimes, and find ways to contact BCSO.

It can be used to find information about inmates or see some of BCSO's most wanted suspects. The community can also read releases from the sheriff's office about crimes or other threats to public safety, like weather events.

“We are very excited that our app is ready to go,” Sheriff Berrong said. “The app has been in development for several months, and we are now ready to share it with our citizens. There are many benefits to the app, but one of the features we are most excited about is that we can communicate with the public in real time when an emergency occurs that threatens public safety, such as weather-related emergencies, road conditions during inclement weather, road closures, and other emergent conditions. Another top feature is that it offers quick access to jail and inmate information in real time.”

BCSO said the app is still "a work in progress," but the inmate section is up and running and should be convenient for people to access current inmate photos.

The app was developed by The Sheriff App, a company that builds apps for different sheriff's offices across the U.S.

The app is available through the App Store and through Google Play. It's named "Blount County Sheriff, TN."
