KCSO report provides more details after car crashes into restaurant

The suspect refused to stop and ran through multiple red lights on Chapman Highway, according to the report.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (4/22):

A Knox County Sheriff's Office report has provided more information on a pursuit that ended with a car crashing into a business on Chapman Highway Sunday night.

KCSO Deputy Bradley Finley initiated a traffic stop on Chapman Highway due to "knowledge of the driver," James Maiden, driving on a suspended license, the report said.

Maiden refused to stop and ran through multiple red lights with Finley pursuing him at speeds upwards of 80 mph, according to the report.

Maiden attempted to make a left turn onto Lindy Drive, but lost control of his vehicle and hit a fire hydrant and the Thai Time Restaurant, the report said.

Maiden was taken to a hospital for back injuries. The restaurant was closed at the time and no one else was hurt, according to the report.

A passenger in Maiden's car was arrested after heroin, fentanyl and meth were found in a purse, the report said.

Damage to the restaurant was estimated at $75,000; damage to the fire hydrant was estimated at $10,000.

Maiden admitted that he told the passenger that he was going to run because he was wanted, according to the report. The report identifies the passenger as Marley Pierson, and she was arrested as well.

Maiden was charged with evading arrest, reckless endangerment and driving on a suspended license, the report said.
