"Care Cuts" gives haircuts to the homeless

Volunteers in East Tennessee offered haircuts to help the folks who they say need it the most on Sunday.

About 30 hair stylists at the Knoxville Institute of Hair Design spent their afternoons giving away free haircuts to the homeless.

The event is called "Care Cuts".

The people behind it say it's an easy way for them to give back and see their work make a difference.

"I noticed I wanted to do something more, but we work behind the chair every day. And I knew I needed to do something, and I thought I can cut their hair" said volunteer Marti LaRuebaker.

Larry Rogers, the owner of the Knoxville Institute of Hair Design said "We think it will make a difference, and every little bit counts. So we think that it will actually grow and will be a good thing to do in the future, and we're looking forward to doing it."

The group says it gave away at least 50 haircuts in just the first two hours of the event.
