'He saved four lives' | Father of Asher Sullivan says son saved 4 lives through organ donation

On May 8, a 10-year-old boy was swept into a storm drain. He died days later, and his organs were donated.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. — The father of a 10-year-old boy who was swept into a storm drain and later died in Middle Tennessee said he will make sure his son is never forgotten.

In a post on social media, Jimmy Sullivan also said Asher Sullivan saved four lives by donating his organs. Jimmy said on May 20, there was an "honor walk" for Asher. The ceremonial event is usually done in hospitals to show family members they are not alone, and to celebrate people who save lives by giving their organs to others after passing away.

"Today we had our honor walk and walked Asher to the OR elevators to begin organ donation. We’ve been notified he saved four lives," Jimmy said on social media.

Asher was swept into a flooded storm drain on May 8 during severe storms in Middle Tennessee. His condition worsened as the days went by, and eventually, he stopped breathing on his own and his eyes stopped responding.

Jimmy said doctors told him Asher suffered an anoxic brain injury, meaning all parts of his brain were damaged due to a lack of oxygen.
