<(WBIR - Knoxville) A UT professor and leading voice in supercomputers says the university could soon be getting an upgrade that will vastly improve how the systems operate in the future.Professor Jack Dongarra says supercomputers today use more and more complex math than they did 20 years ago, but the old grading system on supercomputer performance still relies on a test from the early '90s.Dongarra says the new benchmark, called the High Performance Conjugate Gradient, should propel the computing industry to a new level by helping them meet real-life demands in our technology-driven world.Several times in the past, supercomputers at Oak Ridge National Labs have been in the running for top supercomputer.Dongarra says he hopes to release the new evaluation system by this November, when the bi-annual industry rankings come out.<
