THP: One dead, three hurt after wreck on East Emory Road

69-year-old Edwin Carlin died in the wreck, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — Update (2/7): 

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said charges are pending against an 18-year-old after a fatal accident on East Emory Road. 

The 18-year-old hit a Nissan Altima that was stopped to turn on northbound East Emory Road. The force of the wreck caused the Altima to go into the southbound lanes and hit a Kia Soul, according to the THP report. 

The driver of the Kia Soul, 69-year-old Edwin Carlin, died. The passenger, 66-year-old Terri Carlin, was hurt in the wreck, the THP report said. 

The 18-year-old and the juvenile passenger in their car also suffered injuries, according to the THP report.

Rural Metro Fire was on the scene of a serious car crash on East Emory Road near Bell Road. 

According to Rural Metro, the crash happened at around 4:17 p.m. Two cars almost hit directly head-on, critically injuring four people. 

Multiple fire crews, Tennessee Highway Patrol officers, four ambulances and Lifestar then responded to the scene. Rural Metro said all four were taken to the University of Tennessee Trauma Center with serious injuries.

One person required extraction and the other was flown to the University of Tennessee Trauma Center, Rural Metro said. 

THP is investigating the crash. This is a developing story.
