'Purple Out Day' raises Alzheimer's awarenes

Folks across East Tennessee wore purple Friday to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research.

More than 200 court clerks across the state worked together to organize "Purple Out Day" last year.
Officials with Alzheimer's Tennessee say it's an easy way for people to get involved in the fight for a cure.

"We really appreciate the court clerks across the state, and this year the registrars of deeds also joined in turning their courthouses and their communities purple," said Kay Watson of Alzheimer's Tennessee.

It's not too late to participate in awareness events.

Purple Out Day actually marks the start of a brand new event called the "Alzheimer's Tennessee 500."

That statewide effort runs through Tuesday.
