Firefighter hurt while battling South Knoxville house fire

Crews responded to a residential fire at 205 Wynn Avenue on Jan. 21.

A Knoxville firefighter was sent to the hospital with neck injuries after responding to a fire in South Knoxville.

According to the Knoxville Fire Department, crews responded to a residential fire at 205 Wynn Avenue.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the attic vents and eaves of the home.

The tenant had evacuated by the time crews arrived.

Crews made their way into the home and found the fire had spread from a crawlspace into the interior wall, and then climbed into the attic.

Authorities said the fire appears to have started from a heat and air unit that connected to the outside of the home.

KFD said its chaplain is on the scene evaluating the victim's needs.
