KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Ijams Nature Center is a hub of activities for kids, families, and adults during the summer.
At Mead's Quarry Lake -- canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals are offered daily during the summer months.
The extended summer hours begin Memorial Day.
Monday through Saturday, the rentals are available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and noon to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The last boat leaves an hour before closing.
On the fourth Saturday of the month, Ijams Nature Center offers a kayak program from April to June.
This Saturday, participants will paddle down the Tennessee River while learning about its history.
Along with regular summer camps, there are several one-time summer events like a Poetry Open Mic Night on Friday at 7 p.m. and a summer music fest called 'Jamfest,' which is on July 12.
