MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — The Morristown Police Department is warning citizens of a phone scam.

A caller is pretending to be the department chief or another department member. The caller is demanding a payment in cash or gift cards, according to MPD.

The agency said MPD members will never call you to request money and no government agency takes payment with any gift cards.

"We remind everyone there are many similar scams; we recommend you not give out personal information or payment over the phone unless you are sure who you are speaking with," MPD said.

Anyone with questions regarding the scam should call MPD at 423-585-2710.
