Husband, wife dead in apparent murder-suicide in McCreary Co.

ID=21182343(WBIR) McCreary County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday that its investigating the deaths of a husband and wife as an apparent murder-suicide.

According to a release, the incident took place Sunday afternoon at a home on the 2800 block of Eagle Sawyer Road in the Eagle community of McCreary County, Kentucky.

Authorities said they believe Jerry Wayne Ridner shot and killed his wife, Amanda R. Ridner, inside their home then stepped outside to shoot himself.

A witness called 911 a little after 1:45 p.m. when they saw Jerry shoot himself in the head with a shotgun on the family's porch.

The release stated a Kentucky State Police Trooper made it to the scene first and discovered Jerry Ridner was still alive. They attempted to perform CPR but he died shortly after.

Investigators then found his wife Amanda dead inside the home from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities found the gun used in both deaths next to Jerry Ridner's body. Witnesses also reported hearing two gunshots around the time of the initial 911 call.

The McCreary County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case.
