LFD: Crews responding to 115-acre forest fire in LaFollette, some structures endangered

The LaFollette Fire Chief asked people to avoid the area of N. 19th Street while crews worked. The structures were on N. 21st Street.

LAFOLLETTE, Tenn. — Crews responded to a forest fire in the LaFollette area Wednesday afternoon.

At around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday the LaFollette Fire Department said up to ten structures were endangered. Although they were endangered, Chief Jimmy Pack initially no structures were damaged. The fire was estimated to be at least 115 acres large.

Wednesday night, he said the Tennessee Division of Forestry had taken over operations to contain the fire. He also said no injuries were reported from the fire on Wednesday. By 2 p.m. on Thursday, the Division of Forestry said the fire was around 25% contained.

He asked people to avoid the area of N. 19th Street in LaFollette while crews worked. He said most of the structures endangered were on N. 21st Street.

He said that because of the wind in the area, the fire was difficult to control. He said crews with the Tennessee Division of Forestry were also responding to the fire, with four dozers on the scene.
