More than 60 employers looking for workers at Blount County Job Fair

The job fair is scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Foothills Mall.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — More than 60 Blount County businesses are hiring and they'll be taking resumes all in one spot soon. The annual Blount County Job Fair is planned for Feb. 21 at the Foothills Mall in Maryville.

Jeff Muir, the Blount Partnership Director of Communications, said the event runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will include employers like Amazon and Smith and Wesson.

"This is a great opportunity for people looking for a job, or those looking to advance their careers," Muir said.

The American Job Center will also be on-hand at the event to help people with resume writing, interview skills and more. Muir said employers from all sectors will be at the event.

"There's advanced manufacturing, there's healthcare, there's a lot of HVAC, people in that field," Muir said. "Hospitality, and banking. It covers a wide variety of different areas, employers looking for employees."

High school juniors from schools in Blount County will also attend the event, and Muir said it gives them the opportunity to be exposed to the jobs that are available in their community.

"Not all these people are going to go to college, it's a great opportunity to see what other businesses are out there," Muir said. "(Along with) what skills people are looking for, and possible places for them to start their careers when they graduate."

Muir said people should bring their resumes and dress in professional clothing at the event. Blount County's job market is still wide open Muir said, adding that there are still many positions open.

"Hospitality is one of the main (areas) we see a lot of interest in," Muir said. "We do see a lot of interest in Amazon and Smith and Wesson. Especially Smith and Wesson, they're still trying to hire positions all the way from the manufacturing side up to the C-suite positions.

The University of Tennessee will also have representatives there and is looking to hire for facility services and education jobs.

"(The job fair) is a great opportunity for people that want to see what's out there," Muir said.

People don't need to register ahead of the event and are asked to enter the mall between the TJ Maxx and Cancun Restaurant area.
