Prosecutors file petition to have juveniles charged in deadly Alcoa crash tried as adults

19-year-old Madison Hoese was killed in a crash on March 22. Prosecutors want two teens accused in the crash to be tried as adults.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — UPDATE: April 16:  The two juveniles charged in the case are scheduled for a transfer hearing on June 4 and June 5 in Blount County Juvenile Court.

Blount County Juvenile Court Judge Kenlyn Foster granted a continuance for that hearing on Tuesday morning.

Foster said the continuance would allow for both the defense and prosecution to better prepare for the hearing.

"Absent extraordinary circumstances, I will not continue again," Foster said.

Blount County Attorney General Ryan Desmond said he has filed a petition to have two juveniles charged in a fatal Alcoa crash tried as adults.

Madison Hoese, 19, was killed in a car wreck at around 5:45 a.m. at  East Lincoln Road and Southbound Hall Road in Alcoa on March 22.

The Alcoa Police Department said a 16-year-old driver who was under the influence ran a red light in a stolen truck and hit Hoese's vehicle.

After the wreck, the driver of the truck and a passenger fled. The pair were later captured by Alcoa officers.

The 16-year-old driver was charged with criminal homicide, vehicular homicide, theft of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality, and underage DUI. The passenger, who was also 16 years old, was charged with criminal homicide, theft of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality, APD said.

Hoese worked two jobs, one in a leadership role at a Dunkin Donuts in Maryville, and another at the Ulta in Maryville.

Her co-workers and friends told 10News she will be greatly missed.

"We were blessed to know her," said Dunkin Donuts District Manager Ryan Goodwin. "Our vision is that people are better off for being here, and we feel better off knowing Madi was here with us."

Beth Pennington, the salon manager at Maryville's Ulta, said businesses neighboring the store, like Kirkland's and Five Below, have gone above and beyond to show support after Hoese died. Pennington said Hoese was well-known in the area.

"She didn't just affect the two jobs," Pennington said. "She affected the community."

The juveniles charged in this case are expected in court next week.
