Blount United Way to disperse funding among organizations

The money will be distributed among 26 agencies in Blount County

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn — Twenty-six Blount County agencies will receive funding from The United Way of Blount County this year.

The United Way announced its 2024 allocations this week.

Organizations in Blount County started applying for this money, totaling more than $1.4 million, in October 2023. Then, more than 80 volunteers met earlier this year to determine which groups will receive funds.

"For eight days, panels of Blount County citizens came together to distribute over $1.4 million to take care of our most vulnerable. I'm grateful to our community for their compassion to one another" Allocations Chair Renee Poole said in a release.

The United Way said the funding will be used for 37 programs across the 26 agencies. These programs fall under the categories of health, education and self-sufficiency.

"Every year I look forward to this allocation process, and this year was no exception," said United Way of Blount County Vice President Wendy Wand. "Our partner agencies have put in so much time and effort to show how impactful they are, and our volunteers take each decision very seriously. We are so fortunate to have a caring community working together to reach those in need."
