Metro Drug Coalition to hold ribbon-cutting ceremony for opening of phase 2 of 'The Gateway'

The coalition said phase two of the facility includes a gym and recreation area, as well as the opening of Gateway Coffee.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Metro Drug Coalition in Knox County will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of phase two of The Gateway.

"The Gateway is a recovery community center, based off a national evidence-based model to provide additional support and on-going recovery to those transitioning from addiction treatment back into the community or who are seeking recovery, but need someone to walk beside them as they navigate a path free from substance misuse," MDC said.

MDC said it hopes to connect people and families to social and community resources and serve those seeking a path to long-term recovery.

This ceremony will take place on April 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Gateway Recovery Community Center at 530 West Fifth Avenue. MDC said that parking will be limited, so guests are encouraged to carpool.

The ceremony will feature remarks from the city and county mayors as well as the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

"A program honoring the visionary leadership of Karen Pershing will take place inside The Gateway from 1:45 pm - 2:15 pm, followed by tours of the facilities," said MDC.

According to the coalition, phase two of the facility includes a gym and recreation area, as well as the opening of Gateway Coffee, which will focus on hiring people in recovery.
