Morgan Co. leaders to host town hall meeting Tuesday evening on Sunbright tornado recovery efforts

The meeting will be at the Sunbright Community Center at 6:30 p.m. on April 9, located at 120 Melton Drive.

MORGAN COUNTY, Tenn. — Morgan County leaders are going to be at a town hall meeting on April 9 at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions from the community about the EF-1 tornado that ripped through Sunbright.

The town hall meeting will be at the Sunbright Community Center, located at 120 Melton Drive.

Crews from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency were in Sunbright after the tornado to assess the damage and tally the cost to recover. They worked to make sure "immediate, life-safety needs were met," and evaluated the damage against federal criteria.

"After a thorough and comprehensive review, it was determined that the criteria was not met and therefore federal assistance through FEMA will not be made available," Morgan County Emergency Management and Homeland Security said.

Leaders also learned they would not get funding from the state to recover from the storm.

The office asked anybody who was affected by the tornado to take photos of any weather-related damage before the cleanup efforts and to contact their insurance company.

The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance said it has information and resources about navigating through insurance and contractors following a disaster on its website at this link or by calling (615)-741-2218 or 1-800-342-4029.
