The family of a man shot and killed in a confrontation with an Anderson County deputy has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
30-year-old Randall Wilcox died last October. Authorities say Deputy Steven Williams stopped Wilcox for a traffic violation and Wilcox ran off on foot. Deputy Williams chased him, and Wilcox was shot and killed during a scuffle.
An investigation by the District Attorney General's office cleared Williams of any wrongdoing.
Wilcox's widow and the guardian of his children filed a joint lawsuit last week against the county, the sheriff's office and Deputy Williams. The suit claims the deputy violated Wilcox's Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights with his actions.
The family is seeking an unspecified amount in compensatory and punitive damages as well as an injunction keeping deputies from drawing weapons to chase citizens on suspicion of a misdemeanor.
