Knoxville Police say a person is dead after being hit by an ambulance around 10:30pm Friday night.
The incident happened near the 399 mile marker East of the Strawberry Plains Pike exit off of I-40.
Drivers and witness told police that the person ran directly in front of traffic and was hit by the ambulance.
Police say the victim was also struck by two other vehicles.
The ambulance was out of Sullivan County and was returning from delivering a patient to Knoxville.
The deceased individual’s name is not being released until family has been notified. An investigation is ongoing.
There were no other injuries.
