SE Kentucky authorities arrest 7 so far in illegal gambling and drug trafficking investigation

Seven people in Southeast Kentucky are now facing a slew of charges following a lengthy investigation by Appalachia Narcotics Investigations.

According to the ANI, the seven are facing various charges for illegal gambling, organized crime and drug trafficking.

The case was investigated by authorities with the Bell County Sheriff's Office, Harlan County Sheriff's Office, Pineville Police Department and Kentucky State Police.

According to the ANI, authorities arrested George Fisher, 48, on July 12, 2019 in Middlesboro for promoting gambling, trafficking a controlled substance, and engaging in organized crime within a criminal syndicate. Fisher was indicted on those charges in August.

According to WRIL in Kentucky, Fisher is also facing two attempted murder charges, violation of a domestic violence order, and a charge for illegal possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. WRIL reported the charges stem from an incident on June 4 when he shot at his estranged wife and a another man inside a home. He was being held on a bond totaling $600,000, but posted bond on Nov. 4.

Following his July arrest, authorities also arrested six others connected with the case. The latest, 43-year-old Michael Green, was arrested in Middlesboro on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 for two counts of trafficking methamphetamine and engaging in organized crime.  

Below are the five others who were arrested and their charges:

  • Chris Carroll (43, Middlesboro) was arrested on August 14, 2019 for Engaging in Organized Crime – Criminal Syndicate, three counts of Promoting Gambling 1st degree and Persistent Felony Offender, 2nd degree.
  • David Strunk (46, Middlesboro) was arrested on August 14, 2019 on one county of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree (methamphetamine, less than 2 ounces), three counts of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree (methamphetamine, greater than or equal to 2 ounces) and Engaging in Organized Crime – Criminal Syndicate.
  • India Mason (29, Middlesboro) was arrested on September 19, 2019 for Promoting Gambling 1st degree and Engaging in Organized Crime – Criminal Syndicate.
  • Tanya Daniels (48, Middlesboro) was arrested on August 25, 2019 for Engaging in Organized Crime – Criminal Syndicate.
  • Eric Norris (29, Middlesboro) was arrested on August 6, 2019 for Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 1st degree.
