Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival and Games set for May 19-20

The festival is returning to the grounds of Maryville College, home of "The Scots."

Maryville — Enjoy a weekend of authentic Scottish Highland culture at the 37th Annual Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival and Games May 19-20 at Maryville College. Attendees will experience Celtic music, dancing and food, sheep dog demonstrations, a dog show and parade and much more.

Over 100 athletes are set to participate in competitions like open stone put, hammer throw, caber toss, sheaf toss and more. There will also be two concert stages for the duration of the festival featuring Scottish bands, Albannach and Tannahill Weavers.

On Saturday, the festival will host Scotch tastings at Profit Dining Hall at 1:30 and 5:30 that require a separate ticket purchase. The 5K and half marathon will take place on Sunday, May 20.

Weekend passes are $35 each. There are several ticket packages available at early bird discount prices until May 17, including the full weekend package. Children under 16 years old can attend for free and there is no charge for parking.

Last year, over 50 clans and societies attended with 40 vendors, 12 pipe and drum bands, 70 clan dancers and eight entertainment bands. This year's event is expected to be just as successful.

10 percent of the event's revenue goes to Maryville College scholarships along with two $250 dance scholarships each year.
