(WBIR) A contract postal unit in South Knox County is closing its doors.

According to the U.S. Postal Service, the owner of the store on Kimberlin Heights told the USPS he wants to end the contract.

Buster Smith is retiring after more than 25 years. Smith is in his late 80's and when he wasn't delivering the mail, he could often be found singing and playing guitar with his friends.

His friends say that is why he worked so long.

Smith is also known for handing out bubble gum to kids.

The USPS is looking for someone new who will run the contract postal unit.

Officials say there are 30 post office box holders at the Kimberlin Heights location. In the meantime, box customers will have to pick up their mail at the south station on East Young High Pike off Chapman Highway.
