KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Farragut Baseball won its third consecutive 4a state championship on Friday in Murfreesboro. Just one day later, head coach Matt Buckner retired.

Buckner led the team to seven state titles in his 15 years as the head coach at Farragut. His seven add to the program's 13 championships, which tie the state record for most titles won by a program.

Although he's saying goodbye to leading the program, Buckner will remain a driver's education teacher and continue working in Farragut baseball operations.

Buckner's son, Lukas Buckner, played under his dad throughout high school and has three titles as a player. He is committed to playing for Mississippi State next season as a freshman. Sources tell WBIR that his son's graduation from Farragut was one reason why he decided to step down.

The Admirals finished 40-5 on the season, and all 16 of the team's seniors are committed to playing baseball in college; 11 will play at the Division 1 level.
