Maggitt happy for opportunity with Colts

INDIANAPOLIS (WBIR) - Former Vol Curt Maggitt isn't caught up in the fact that he didn't get drafted by an NFL team. He's just happy to be on an NFL team.

Linebacker Curt Maggitt is back after sitting out last season with an injury. He'll be relied on for his pass-rushing capabilities. At times you'll see him drop a hand down on the defensive line as well. He will add versatility and speed to the Tennessee defense.

INDIANAPOLIS (WBIR) - Former Vol Curt Maggitt isn't caught up in the fact that he didn't get drafted by an NFL team. He's just happy to be on an NFL team.

Maggitt signed with the Colts as a free agent soon after the draft concluded.

"It's not all about getting drafted," said Maggitt told reporters in Indianapolis. "I'm fortunate enough to be here. I'm grateful for the opportunity and I'm gong to make the best of it."

Maggitt was likely to be drafted before a fractured hip ended his redshirt senior season just two games in.

"Early on we didn't realize the severity of it," he said. "But I;m here now, it's all good. It's getting a lot better."

Maggitt played defensive end and linebacker at Tennessee, and projects to be an outside linebacker in the NFL. Despite his injury history (he also tore his ACL in 2012) Maggitt could be a solid edge rusher in the NFL.

In 2014 he led the Vols with 11 sacks. And he was the unquestioned leader of Tennessee's defense.

"Passion. Passion for the game," he said when asked what he brings to an NFL team. "I want to serve the team, special teams or pass rushing or whatever."

Most importantly, Maggitt says his hip is getting closer to 100 percent.

'I'm getting a lot better," he said. "I'm feeling real good moving around."
