Driving You Crazy: Alcoa Highway and Lenoir City construction updates

This week we're giving you updates on a few major construction projects in East Tennessee.

It's another Driving You Crazy Monday here at 10News, and this week we're giving you updates on a few major construction projects in East Tennessee.

Alcoa Hwy

First up, Alcoa Highway. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, more than 50,000 vehicles travel this highway every day.

This project impacts several different counties in East Tennessee, but most of it is happening right now in Knox County between Maloney Road and Woodson Drive.

Here's a traffic alert for late night drivers and earlier risers. According to TDOT, drivers should be prepared for temporary lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while the project continues.

That will cause lane shifts on Alcoa Highway southbound near Woodson Drive. Also, the left turn lane from southbound Alcoa Highway onto Woodson Drive is closed. But there is a detour. You can take State route 168 to Maryville Pike. That will get you back to Woodson Drive.

And remember this part of the project should be completed by November 2019.

Lenoir City Hwy 321 expansion

If you pass through Lenoir City, this nearly two-mile construction site is hard to miss. It's a multi-million-dollar expansion project on Highway 321 from Highway 11 to Simpson Road.

This $12.8 million project should be completed in the next nine months.

Back in September, crews were expanding the construction site into nearby businesses and homes. TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi told 10News, to limit the inconvenience to the businesses, construction crews can't ccompletely block entrances and exits to businesses and there can't be any lane closures between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Right now, crews are widening the roadway, creating three travel lanes from the intersection of US 321 and US 11. According to TDOT, that involves grading, drainage and paving on Highway 321.
