KUB: All water system work on N. Broadway completed as of May 17, work continues on wastewater and electric systems

KUB said crews will reduce northbound traffic to one lane on N. Broadway between McCroskey Avenue and Coker Avenue 24 hours a day through May 24.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Utilities Board said all work on its water systems along North Broadway has been completed as of May 17, but work will continue on the utility's wastewater and electricity systems.

The project has led to some frustration for commuters and nearby businesses, as lanes close along the road to give crews a chance to safely finish their work. KUB said the construction project should end in June.

As the project continues, KUB said crews will reduce northbound traffic to one lane on North Broadway between McCroskey Avenue and Coker Avenue 24 hours a day, through May 24, so crews can work on the wastewater system there. It also said the Chicago Avenue intersection with North Broadway would reopen sometime during this week, and the Coker Avenue intersection would close as work zones shift northward.

"Northbound traffic continues to be merged into one lane using the center turn lane through the work zone," said KUB in a release.

Commuters can also expect to see signs, cones and flashing boards in place as work continues through the week. Crews will also implement intermittent lane and shoulder closures on North Broadway from East Glenwood Avenue through East Woodland Avenue to upgrade the overhead electric system.

"The entire stretch of this section of N. Broadway will not be affected at the same time. At least one lane will remain open in each direction to maintain traffic flow," KUB said in the release.
