Toppled trees blocked roads in several counties, including Loudon and Knox

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. — Multiple roads in parts of Loudon, Blount and Knox counties were blocked Wednesday after intense winds and rain passed through East Tennessee -- knocking over trees and utility poles.

Loudon County was hut particularly hard by the storms. According to the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, in the Lenoir City area, affected roads included: 

  • Beals Chapel Road
  • Lakeland Drive
  • Lakeside Drive
  • Northshore Drive
  • Morton Road
  • Dixon Road
  • Martel Road
  • Shaw Ferry Road
  • Conkinnon Drive
  • Ford Road
  • Sugarlimb Road
  • Simpson Road
  • Browder School Road
  • Crock Road 

Deputies and crews from the Loudon County Highway Department, Lenoir City Street Department and Lenoir City Utility Board are working to clear trees, power lines and other hazards from blocked roads.

If you need to drive, LCSO said to use caution and drive carefully. People can report traffic hazards to LCSO's non-emergency number at 865-458-9081.

In Blount County, the Tennessee Department of Transportation reported debris blocking State Route 334/Louisville Road near McGhee Tyson Airport. The road was closed to traffic between Proffitt Springs Road and West Hunt Road.

Alcoa also said Louisville Road was closed due to downed power lines at the Proffitt Springs substation. Alternate routes include Proffitt Springs Road to Middlesettlements Road and West Hunt Road onto Hunt Road.

Knox County reported trees and powerlines down across the area, particularly in the southern portions of the county.  A few large power outages were also reported in the northeastern portion of the county near Mascot and Union County.
