'Otter Snow Day' | Zoo Knoxville otters playing in the snow while zoo works to keep animals warm

Zoo Knoxville said all of its animals have access to warm dens, but some enjoy playing in the snow.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Zoo Knoxville said it is working to make sure all of its animals are safe and warm as a blanket of snow dropped onto East Tennessee. The zoo said all animals can access warm dens, and the zoo is equipped for severe weather.

That didn't stop some animals from having fun in the snow. The zoo shared a video of three otters running around in their enclosure on Monday, chasing after snowflakes as they fell. The otters are named Clayton, Pascal and Reed.

The zoo was closed Monday and will stay closed through at least Tuesday due to the weather. Several inches of snow dropped in Knoxville and across East Tennessee on Monday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect across the entire region until at least 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
