KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A woman is dead after being cut deeply in her throat, the Cocke County Sheriff's Office said.
Around 7:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Polly Fox called 911 and told dispatchers she found her mom dead at her home in Newport, according to the CCSO.
When deputies responded they found Ola Schumacher dead on the floor with a deep cut to her throat, CCSO said.
Detectives began their investigation and have made two arrests so far. Fox and Rayanna Keene were both charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, according to CCSO.
Both women are being held at the CCSO Detention Center and Schumacher's body was taken to the Knoxville Forensics Center for an autopsy, CCSO said.
"This is an extreme tragedy that this community has experienced. The detectives will continue to investigate and process this case," CCSO Sheriff C.J. Ball said.
