New court documents allege Johnson City officers took cash from accused rapist, turned 'blind eye'

The lawsuit, filed by multiple victims, also claims officers engaged in a pattern of discriminatory conduct toward women who reported the alleged crimes.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — There’s a new court filing in one of two federal lawsuits against accused rapist Sean Williams.

The new filing is asking a federal judge for permission to amend the lawsuit and add new claims that officers with the Johnson City Police Department took hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash from Williams while refusing to take meaningful steps to "stop his sexually predatory behavior."

The amended lawsuit was filed on Dec. 12. The judge hasn't ruled on allowing the amendment, and the city of Johnson City is opposing the move. The Jane Does who initiated the lawsuit have asked for a week -- until Jan. 5 -- to respond to the city's opposition.

The lawsuit, filed by multiple victims, also claims officers engaged in a pattern of discriminatory conduct toward women who reported the alleged crimes.

Three additional JCPD investigators were identified in the new documents, which also included 13 unnamed officers.

Williams is facing multiple state and federal charges related to drug trafficking and sex crimes against women and children.

The amended federal filing is available below.
