CCSO: K-9 unit hit and killed early Saturday morning in Cumberland County

The K-9 was named Shadow, and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said the dog was pronounced dead at the scene.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said a K-9 unit was hit and killed in a hit-and-run incident early Saturday morning.

CCSO said K-9 Shadow was killed by an unknown driver and was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office said it happened on Highway 70 North.

"This devastating incident has left the entire law enforcement community and our local community in mourning. Deputy Shadow was a dedicated and beloved member of our team, serving with loyalty and distinction," the sheriff's office said on social media.

It also said investigators were working to identify the car and person responsible for the incident. It described the car as a dark sedan.

CCSO also said anyone with information about the hit-and-run should reach out at 931-484-6176.
