ACSO: 2 suspects arrested after high-speed chase through Oak Ridge

The chase began after deputies responded to a tip about a man putting on a ski mask at a gas pump.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, two suspects were arrested on the morning of March 4 in Oak Ridge after a tip from a gas station worker.

Devon Pride and Destiny F. Simonds were both arrested after trying to drive away from sheriff's deputies in a high-speed chase. According to ACSO, the chase started after deputies responded to the Marathon gas station at 1974 Oak Ridge Highway at 6:40 a.m. after an employee called dispatchers and said she saw a man at one of the pumps put on a ski mask.

Deputies soon arrived on the scene and saw a man in a ski mask get into a white 2013 Chrysler sedan and drive away from the location said ACSO. The deputies followed the car through parts of Laurel Road, Oliver Springs Highway, Oak Ridge Highway and through Oak Ridge. They stopped the car near Southwood Lane.

ASCO said a gun and items believed to be drugs were found within the vehicle.

Both suspects were transported to the Anderson County Jail in Clinton where they are still being held with an ongoing investigation according to ACSO.

The suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy, multiple drug-related crimes, evading arrest and many traffic violations.

"Sheriff Russell Barker commended the diligent work of law enforcement officers in preventing a potentially dangerous situation. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to assist in maintaining the safety of our community," ACSO said.
