KPD searching for man charged with manslaughter after fatal shooting on McCalla Avenue on Feb. 14

The Knoxville Police Department said 50-year-old Sherwin Harris was shot and killed at a lounge located at 2223 McCalla Avenue.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (2/19): The Knoxville Police Department has identified the person who was fatally shot on Wednesday as 50-year-old Sherwin Harris. Police said Harris into an altercation with a person at Magnolia Cafe earlier in the night and the argument continued at the lounge located at 2223 McCalla Avenue. 

During the argument, Harris was shot and died at the scene, according to KPD. 

On Monday, Feb. 19, KPD said 40-year-old James Perry III was charged with voluntary manslaughter and weapon offenses in the shooting.

KPD said officers were still looking for Perry III. Anyone with information about his location should reach out to the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers by calling 865-215-7165, or by reaching out online.

Previous: The Knoxville Police Department said a man is dead after a shooting overnight in East Knoxville. 

At around 11 p.m. Wednesday, KPD officers arrived at the 2200 block of McCalla Avenue where they found a man who had been shot at least one time, KPD said. 

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, according to KPD. 

KPD said it's believed the shooting followed an argument between the victim and the suspect, who left the scene before the officer's arrival. 

According to the department, efforts remain ongoing to identify and locate the suspect.
