'Ms. Peg went home' | Gospel singer Peg Bean, member of 'The McKameys,' dies

The McKameys is a Gospel group that has performed across the country. Their last concert as a family was in November 2019.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Gospel singer who traveled the country alongside her band, The McKameys, died. The band announced Peg Bean's death on Tuesday.

"We want to let everyone know that early this morning Ms. Peg went home to be with her Lord and is now in the presence of The One she sang about for so long. Please continue praying for our family," the band said on social media.

The band last performed as a family in November 2019, after spending more than 40 years traveling across the country and performing songs like "I Have a Home" and "I Made It By Grace."

On Dec. 11, the band said on social media that Bean had been admitted to the hospital due to a stroke. She performed with her sisters and her husband, Ruben, at his church and later started performing as a full-time Southern Gospel group. The band sang Gospel music from the 1980s on.

The family and band are based in East Tennessee, and their final concert was held at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.

Visitation and funeral services will be at the Second Baptist Church in Clinton, located at 777 Public Safety Lane, on Dec. 29. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m. before the funeral starts.
