Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — A man was rescued Tuesday after injuring himself while hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the Swain County area of North Carolina.
According to the park, on Monday, a man was walking on a log when he injured his lower leg and could not walk. Due to weather, the responding paramedics were not able to rescue the hiker at the time, the North Carolina National Guard said.
Both responding teams stayed with the hiker overnight at a campsite until a hoist team arrived Tuesday morning.
The North Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team flew him out Tuesday. Ground transportation then took him to the hospital.
