KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation said traffic was backed up in both directions of N. Broadway late Wednesday afternoon after Knoxville police responded to a gas station near Fountain City Park and Duck Pond.
Northbound traffic was backed up to near I-640, while southbound traffic was backed up past Colonial Circle. Police cruisers lined the North Broadway corridor around 6 p.m. with emergency lights activated.
Drivers should consider alternate routes and avoid the area.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, multiple officers responded to an "officer-involved shooting" at the Fountain City Exxon on North Broadway. KPD initially responded to a disturbance at the gas station and said a man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition after being shot. No officers were hurt.
