KPD: 18-year-old charged after carjacking woman

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said an 18-year-old was charged after he carjacked a woman on Sunday, Jan. 21. 

Just after 2 p.m., a woman reported that her car was taken at gunpoint in the 1400 block of Beaumont Avenue, according to KPD. 

The department said officers spotted the car in the area of Reynolds Street and Western Avenue. Officers attempted to stop the car at Western Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue, but the car sped away. 

The car crashed a short time later at Texas Avenue and Sherman Street. The 18-year-old ran away from the car and officers chased him, according to KPD. 

The 18-year-old, identified as Shaun Sullivan by KPD, was eventually taken into custody behind the Emerald Youth building on Sherman Street, KPD said. 

Sullivan was carrying a loaded gun and was charged with carjacking, reckless driving, possession of a firearm with intent to go armed and leaving the scene of an accident, according to KPD.
