KFD: Red Cross assisting family after Amherst home destroyed in fire

The fire was too large for crews to enter the house, but they were able to get it under control in just over an hour, the Knoxville Fire Department said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Fire Department said an Amherst house was destroyed after a large house fire early Monday morning. 

The house was located in the 1700 block of Helmbolt Road. The fire was first reported around 2:20 a.m., according to KFD. 

The fire was too large for crews to enter the house, but they were able to get it under control in just over an hour, KFD said. 

Seven adults and one dog were in the home and all escaped without injury, according to KFD. 

Extensive overhaul operations will be needed and the American Red Cross is assisting the family, KFD said.
