61-year-old man dead after crash on Pellissippi Parkway in Alcoa, officials say

Police said a car was traveling east on Pellissippi when it ran through the warning barricades, exited the end of the parkway and landed on Old Knoxville Highway.

ALCOA, Tenn. — The Alcoa Police Department is investigating the cause of a car crash that happened on Pellissippi Parkway Wednesday morning.

At around 9 a.m., APD, along with the Alcoa Fire Department, responded to a crash with injuries at the end of Pellissippi Parkway at Old Knoxville Highway.

After a preliminary investigation, police were able to determine that the car was traveling eastbound on Pellissippi when it ran through the warning barricades, exited the end of Pellissippi Parkway and landed on Old Knoxville Highway, APD said.

The 61-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver has not been released at this time. This is a developing story.

The AMR Ambulance Service and the Blount County Sheriff's Office also responded to the crash.
