Tens of thousands of people were left without power after powerful storms moved through the area Saturday night. Crews were out working starting around 10 p.m. Saturday trying to clear roads and restore power. They've been working hard ever since, but hundreds of people in East Tennessee are still without power on Tuesday.
Officials warn people to stay away from any downed power lines they might see, and be mindful that any trees leaning on power lines, utility poles and related equipment can conduct electricity.
Knoxville Area
At the height of the storm, KUB reported about 50,000 homes without power. More than 3,000 people were still without power Sunday night. The number of homes without power has been steadily decreasing, and as of noon Wednesday, just 12 KUB customers are still without power.
KUB had a total of 65 crews, including some called in from Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky, working 16-hour shifts around the clock to repair downed power lines and reverse outages. Officials say because of the widespread damage and difficulty accessing areas because of tree fall, some people might be without power past Tuesday. You can find the latest KUB outages here.
LCUB
LCUB officials say about 20 people are still without power as of noon Wednesday, and they hope to have all those restored by the end of the day. At the height of the storm, 15,000 customers were affected. Officials say the remaining areas require extensive repairs. The hardest hit areas were Choto Rd., Highway 11 and Ford Road area, Hickory Creek area, Tools Bend area, Buttermilk East and Highway 70 in Lenoir City.
Blount County
By late Tuesday morning, Alcoa Electric had their outages down to about 80 customers, down from about 5000 on Sunday. The largest areas of outages are Overlook, Springbrook, and West Hunt Rd with others scattered throughout the system. You can monitor outages in Blount County here, though Alcoa Electric says the map is not showing an accurate outage count at this time.
Volunteer Energy Cooperative
Volunteer Energy Cooperative covers several counties including Fentress, Cumberland, Roane, Meigs, McMinn and others. As of noon on Wednesday, only 5 Volunteer Energy Cooperative customers were still without power, with almost all of those in Cumberland County. You can find their outage map here.
Fort Loudon Electric
Fort Loudon Electric which serves parts of Blount, Loudon and Monroe counties shows no outages remaining from the Saturday night storms. They are updating their outages here.
Harriman Electric
About 500 customers remain without power in Harriman as of noon Wednesday, down from about 4,000 Monday evening. The Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Harriman High School gym at 5:30 p.m. for those still without power or water. It will remain open as long as needed.
Sevier Electric
No customers remain without power as of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
