Sean Williams defense attorney files motion to withdraw

Williams is in jail after escaping custody in 2023, and he's also been at the center of an investigation involving the Johnson City Police Department.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The defense attorney for accused child rapist Sean Williams is asking to be removed as counsel.

According to court documents obtained by NBC-affiliate News 5, Sean Williams's defense attorney, Joseph McAffee, filed a motion to withdraw as counsel.

Williams is in jail after escaping custody in 2023, and he's also been at the center of an investigation involving the Johnson City Police Department.

McAffee was appointed to Williams's case back in December. It is unclear from the documents why McAffee has filed for removal.

Court documents also revealed that Williams's child porn case has now been reset to Aug. 27 beginning at 10 a.m.

Williams will be in court regarding his escape charges on May 14 starting at 9 a.m.
