Sevier Animal Care Center 'extremely over capacity,' adoption fees waived until further notice

The Sevier Animal Care Center said Monday started with all of its kennels full before it took in a few emergency animal control cases totaling 16 more dogs.

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — The Sevier Animal Care Center said Monday it was "extremely over capacity" and was waiving all adoption fees to encourage people to adopt some of the animals in its kennels.

It said when the day started, all of the center's 35 dog and puppy kennels were full. During the day, the center said it took in a total of 16 additional dogs and puppies from three emergency animal control cases.

The center said it had to put dogs on outside runs because there was no room inside its building. The center also said several dogs were put into temporary pop-up crates. Puppies were also put in the center's visit room, according to a post on social media from the Sevier Animal Care Center.

"We are in really bad shape. Anyone who’s interested in adopting or fostering, please come down," the center said on social media.

The center also said it completely shut down its intake until some adoptions are made, because of the lack of room. The center said it would be open from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. on Tuesday for anyone who wants to adopt a new pet.

"Our amazing staff will help you find the right match," the center said on social media.

People can also help by fostering a dog. Anyone interested in volunteering to foster a dog can find more information online. The center also has a list of different dogs in its care online.

"We want to thank everyone in advance, because our community always supports us when things get bad. We appreciate you, Sevier County," the center said on social media.
