Jefferson City police still searching for man accused of dragging officer in car after traffic stop

The Jefferson City Police Department said Shawn Henry Burger, 35, was pulled over after authorities received a theft complaint.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Jefferson City Police Department said it is still searching for a man accused of driving away after a traffic stop and dragging an officer "a short distance."

Police are searching for Shawn Henry Burger, 35.

JCPD said officers pulled him over near the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Hicks Avenue after investigating a shoplifting complaint at a Walmart on Friday around 4 p.m. The officer said they saw what might have been stolen items in the back seat of the car, according to JCPD Chief Andy Dossett.

However, Burger refused to get out of the car, and "a JCPD officer attempted to remove him from the vehicle" when he drove away. Dossett said the officer was dragged several feet.

Dossett said the officer had minor bumps and bruises after the incident.

Burger was on probation for other offenses, according to Dossett. In a post on social media, police said anyone who sees Burger should call 911.
