Survey: Are there potholes near you?

Some drivers across East Tennessee said they are having to dodge potholes on the road after rain and snow hit the region.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — After East Tennessee thawed from a severe winter storm, many found potholes lining the roads.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said crews are patching potholes as quickly as possible and urged drivers to use caution on the roads while crews worked. Potholes can form when moisture seeps in under the road and freezes, causing the water to expand and crack the asphalt. Then as the weather warms, the ice disappears and passing vehicles tear up the holes they leave behind.

Drivers can report when they see a pothole online, or they can call 833-TDOTFIX (836-8349).

If a pothole damages a driver's tire, they can also file a report with the state Division of Claims Administration to see if they qualify for reimbursement.

We also want to know what road conditions are like near you. If you need to dodge potholes on the way to walk, take the survey below! Share the specific stretch of road you're having issues with, and you may see that road in a future report.
