KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee pitcher Dylan Loy had a great performance on Tuesday in the Vols' midweek game against Queens.

He came in the first inning with just one out recorded and the bases loaded. He didn't allow an earned run in 3.1 innings while recording five strikeouts. The innings pitched and strikeouts were career-highs for the freshman.

The Pigeon Forge native was proud of the way he represented his hometown area college.

"One of the biggest things in my life was being able to come where the Vols on my chest," Loy said. "Being able to come out and throw was a dream come true."

He has pitched in 14 games this season, none as good as this one.

Head coach Tony Vitello was impressed with his performance.

"It was outstanding," Vitello said. "Dylan is capable of going a lengthy amount of time. It was probably time to get him out of there but he gave us everything he had and looked sharp doing it. I'm hoping it's a quick recovery so we can have him for this weekend's games."

The Vols play rival Vanderbilt this weekend in a three-game series in Nashville. The series starts on Friday at 7 p.m.
