Red Cross handing out flooding cleanup kits

Disaster assessment teams have been surveying areas where they know there has been damage, but they may have inadvertently missed some homes.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The recovery process after this weekend's historic flooding is just beginning, and the Red Cross is helping people clean up their lives and their homes.

Volunteers are going door to door around East Tennessee handing out cleanup kits for homes with flood damage. The kits include gloves, bleach, mops and scrub brushes.

"The folks that have been able to get back into the homes now can actually start cleaning, some of their cars are not accessible, and they really have no way of going anywhere, so you know we're happy that we can supply them with the needed items that they have to have at this time," said volunteer Louie Keeling.

Disaster assessment teams have been surveying areas where they know there has been damage, but they may have inadvertently missed some homes. If you need help, they want you to give them a call at 865-584-2999.
