SURGOINSVILLE, Tenn. — A 6-year-old girl died overnight in a fire that engulfed a home in Hawkins County, the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to a house fire around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday on Horton Road, which is north of Surgoinsville. HCSO said they found five family members at a neighbor's house when they arrived. The five were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Deputies said they were unable to get a 6-year-old girl out of the house. She died in the fire.
The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Arson Unit are investigating the fire, according to the sheriff's office.
