Morristown Police Department accepting applications for its Citizen's Police Academy

Participants will learn about the department through hands-on exercises and will also be allowed to complete an eight-hour ride along with an officer, MPD said.

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — The Morristown Police Department said it's getting ready for its 25th Citizen's Police Academy. 

Classes start June 4 and end June 25. It'll be held at the police department every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6 to 10 p.m. 

Participants will learn about the department through hands-on exercises and will also be allowed to complete an eight-hour ride along with an officer, MPD said. 

Applications for the course can be picked up at the department or completed on the city's website. Applications can be mailed to the department or dropped off at MPD's Record Division. 

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-severe basis pending the results of a background investigation of each applicant. You must be at least 21 years old to take the course. 

"The Morristown Police Department invites interested citizens to participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy. Upon completion of this course, each citizen will have a better understanding of the daily operations of the Morristown Police Department. It is our goal to continue to build a partnership with the community," MPD said in a press release.
